I have always been a huge animal person. I've volunteered, I've given money, I've adopted, I've loved. I haven't eaten beef, pork or poultry in 8 years. I do however, wear vintage fur.
I know, and I get it from people here and there- how can you be a vegetarian and wear fur? Well, really I don't call myself a vegetarian because I eat seafood. That's a label other people give me. And the thing is, I'd rather see something used than tossed in a landfill.
I don't want to see animals suffer as much as the next animal lover. But the garments that I wear- the animals have been gone for much longer than I have been alive. They are beautiful pieces of our (not so perfect) history and I'd rather use them than have them trashed. I hate waste as much as I hate animals suffering.
But if you have a fur and you do not want to wear it or want to throw it away, there is a great charity drive for them by the Humane Society. The organization uses them as bedding for wildlife rescues. And that is a great cause.
